Linking the Yarra Valley with the mountain areas around between Healesville and Marysville is the road known as the Black Spur, which passes through Narbethong on the Maroondah Highway. Famous for its heady scenery of spectacular tall forests, the Black Spur winds its way up the Great Dividing Range. With close to perfect roads the drive/ride is very popular with motor enthusiasts - both two and four wheeled vehicles!

Wind down the windows and savour the fragrance of the Australian bush as you pass through the forest. The drive is bordered by immense mountain ash trees that allow dappled sunlight to make its way down to the cool, lush understorey of green ferns. At the base of the Black Spur you will find Fernshaw picnic area with rest facilities or utilise the  facilities at The Black Spur Roadhouse, just next to the Narbethong Caravan Park on the edge of the Black Spur!

Proprietor of the Black Spur Road House, Ray Grech, took over operation in October 2006. Before taking up a much enjoyed residency in Narbethong, Ray operated a Motorcycle themed Cafe in Corryong (on the Victorian/New South Wales state border) for 5 years. Substantial effort has been invested in the transformation of the Black Spur Road House with a fairly large collection of Motorcycle Memorabilia of all sorts - with The Black Spur quite infamous in the Motor Cycle community.
